Eductor Valves

These valves use the laws of physics to supposedly increase
the flow a pump puts out in an aquarium.
If a pump is rated at a certain volume per minute, this is
supposed to increase that outgoing volume by 10-15%.
It is attached to the outlet side of the pump. It changes
the outflow from a laminar one to one with more variable current.
Our Results
We tried several eductor valves and we haven't had quite
the same benefits as the reviews indicated.
We didn't really notice any tremendous increase in the flow
output. Now admittedly, we didn't measure it. But if the is
a difference, it wasn't much.
Note author Richard Harker wrote a recent review on them
and said that we could put corals closer to the pump. In our
tanks, there are zones that are too close the pump for corals
to grow as there's too much flow. We did test this and generally
find that to be the case, that we could put corals a little
closer to the pump outlet without blasting them away. But
that's because the laminar flow was reduced and changed to
a more intermittent variable flow.
All together, we didn't feel that eductor valves were worth
the cost for the benefit they had.
